The MapOfStrange website is a way of recording strange, wacky, weird and wonderful anomalies, sights and oddities from Google Maps and Google Earth. If you have found something a bit unusual or interesting, we would like to know. Whether someone has written something in a corn field, or there is an aeroplane flying over rural England, it doesn’t matter - we just want to see it. Just find the place in our map, click on the map where the strange or interesting thing you’ve found is, and tell us about it!

Have a look at the strange, unusual and interesting things other people have found in Google Maps and Google Earth (click on the ‘Maps‘ link above). We’ve categorised these for you to make it easier to find things. Click on the links on the left hand side of the page (or click on the markers in the map) to zoom in on the strange and interesting things. If you don’t see what you expect immediately, drag the map about a bit and put the marker in the middle of the page - everything should then become clear.

An increasing number of visitors are looking at mapofstrange.com and scitor.co.uk, and as a result an increasingly large number of new records are being added - thanks for that! However, this means that we’re getting lots more people telling us where they live, and where Brazil or India or Spain is. Thanks very much for your help, it’s reassuring to know that elementary geography is still being taught in schools, and that the money and time invested by the Google corporation to produce Google maps and Google earth isn’t going to waste. However, we really aren’t interested. Seriously. We couldn’t give a damn that you know the whereabouts of New York. And, again, you might be surprised that nobody wants to know where you live, but hey, we don’t! But if you’ve seen something interesting (a WWII bomber in Northern Italy), unusual (a car flying through the air), or stupid (a giant penis painted on the roof of a school), we really want to hear from you.

You have one picture labeled as a Pentagram. I think that if you will check a map, this feature is on the Nellis AFB bombing range (it is east of Scotty’s Junction). It is a simulated Soviet SA-2 surface to air rocket launching pad. They all looked like that it was the major identifying characteristic.
Love your web site just found it today.

Is there a way to search and select keywords, or can I only page through them?

Not at the moment, but it’s something I’m working on.
